A Christmas Letter from Us

November 21, 2024

Dear URSA Families and Supporters,

This holiday season, we invite you to help bring warmth and joy to individuals in our care. Many individuals at URSA are facing the challenges that come with aging, while also seeing their families grow older. Some rely on public guardians—relationships that are important but may not always provide the personal touches that make the holidays feel special. At URSA, we believe everyone deserves to feel remembered and valued during the holiday season.

Our goal is simple yet profound: to ensure that each individual in our care experiences the warmth and comfort of the holidays.

To show you why your support matters, let us tell you about Noah. When Noah first joined URSA, he was confined to a bed and in constant pain and discomfort. With no access to proper mobility equipment or the dental care he desperately needed. With the intervention of hospital staff and social workers, Noah was connected to URSA. We were able to step in to ensure he received the care he needed — addressing his dental health, providing a suitable wheelchair, and giving him a new sense of possibility. Today, Noah enjoys warm, nourishing meals, has reconnected with his family, and is able to take part in community activities that bring him joy.

Noah’s story is just one example of the difference your support can make. Your
donations help us provide essential care, comfort, and opportunities for
individuals like Noah to lead fulfilling lives.

These moments are why we do what we do. The holidays give us a special opportunity to make these moments even more meaningful for individuals like Noah.

Your generosity can help create holiday magic in meaningful ways:

  • $50 helps provide comforting winter essentials, like cozy blankets or warm clothing.
  • $100 gives an individual a personalized gift that brings them joy on Christmas morning.
  • $250 supports a festive holiday meal shared with friends and caregivers.
  • $500 funds community activities, equipment, or decorations to brighten

To make a difference this holiday season, please consider donating through our website at https://ursa-rehab.com/about/donate/. You can also support URSA by purchasing gift cards through our Fundscrip program Click Here to order now. Buying gift cards through Fundscrip is a simple way to support URSA while purchasing gifts for your loved ones. Every shared meal, every moment of connection this holiday season is made possible by people like you. Let’s make this holiday season one of warmth and care for those in our community.

Best wishes for a safe and caring Holiday Season,

Pam McGladdery, Chief Executive Officer, URSA

Thank you Stampede City Kinsmen!

It’s official: URSA is the proud owner of our Copperfield home!

Our plot of land was chosen and donated by Hopewell Residential in November 2012 with groundbreaking and construction starting on May 13, 2014. Development continued until July 2015 when we celebrated our possession day on July 10, 2015.

The home is now full with five permanent clients and one space for adult respite. Thank you to all who supported and continue to support URSA and our new Copperfield home!

The Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel Returns

Marriott Downtown Hotel plants flowersOn May 27th, the Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel planted new flowers and did yard work for two group homes, as well as painted the foyers of two other group homes. Everything was left colourful and fresh for URSA clients and staff. Thank you for supporting us and making our spaces extra summer-y.

Big thanks to ADT Security Services!

On May 9th, as part of their company’s “Day of Caring”, ADT Security Services chose to volunteer their time at two of our group homes. Taking care of wallpaper removal, prep and the painting of living rooms and client bedrooms, they worked long hours but with a lot of enthusiasm and effort, did a great job! Thank you to the two teams of volunteers!

The Marriott Paints!

On April 10th, 2015, The Calgary Marriott Downtown participated in an URSA “While You were Out”  when their volunteers came to one of our group homes to patch, paint and personalize some of the spaces used by clients and staff. They worked fast and did a beautiful job. URSA thanks the Marriott for sharing in this wonderful experience!

Building Community with Lowe’s

For the entire month of March, Lowe’s (Sunridge) raised money on behalf of URSA as part of their Lowe’s Canada Heroes campaign which supports local community improvement projects. Through the sale of paper pagodas and money collected at the cashier tills, which were then matched by the corporation, $5,200 was raised. We want to send a huge thank you to Lowe’s Canada and specifically to the Calgary Sunridge team! Next steps will include a “While You were Out” day to improve an existing group home for URSA clients and staff.

Thank you Talisman Volunteers!

Nothing like a fresh coat of paint to brighten a room, lift a mood or bring a smile to someone’s face. On November 5, 2014, the Talisman Centre offered up several volunteers to help paint the walls of Camp URSA, as well as re-do some client rooms at our Retreat Centre! URSA would like to say a big thanks to Talisman for their time and energy. Your efforts make a difference to our clients and camp patrons!
